What is Pilates?
Developed in the 1920's by Joseph H. Pilates, the Pilates Method is a form of exercise, injury rehabilitation, and overall body conditioning that incorporates posture, breathing, flexibility, balance and strengthening. By focusing specifically on abdominal control, pelvic stabilization, and neutral spine – what Pilates calls the "powerhouse" – a person is taught to stabilize the trunk while moving the arms and legs freely. The result is improved strength, energy and flexibility, and correction of body imbalances and poor movement patterns. The goal of Pilates training, beyond slimming and strengthening, is to teach you to be confident and in control of your body and to use it to your greatest advantage.
